Jitesh Malik, Esq.

JITESH MALIK, Esq. is a graduate of the University of Delhi, New Delhi, India (B.A.); H.N. Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttranchal, India (LL.B.); and the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School (LL.M.) where he also served as the Executive-Editor for the Buffalo Criminal Law Journal.

As the Founding/Managing Partner of New York (Manhattan) office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. (jmalik@malikpopiel.com) Mr. Malik focuses his practice on business immigration matters and provides strategic immigration planning to address the needs of the U.S. employers in obtaining temporary nonimmigrant visas for business professionals (including managers, executives, physicians, nurses, dental and computer professionals). In addition, Mr. Malik also counsels individuals in highly complex immigration matters, which include Motion to Reopen & Reconsider and Nunc-Pro-Tunc requests to the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services. Mr. Malik also prepares petitions to the Administrative Appeals Office, and the Board of Alien Labor Certification Appeals.


Among others, Mr. Malik formerly served as Senior Counsel with the law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, (Manhattan, New York) as well as Immigration Counsel with the Law Offices of Rajiv S. Khanna, P.C. (Arlington, Virginia) where he focused on business immigration matters, and various types of federal litigation.

Mr. Malik has written and published various works, which include, among others: The Immigration Time Machine. H-1Bs’ Regaining Time Spent Outside the United States, Vol. 17, No. 3 Geo. Immigr. L. Mr. Malik is a member of the New York State Bar Association; American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) (New York City Chapter); South Asian Bar Association (Wash. D.C. & New York City); Delhi High Court Bar Association (New Delhi, India); and Delhi Bar Association (New Delhi, India). 

Mr. Malik is admitted to practice in New York, District of Columbia, before the U.S. Court of International Trade, and the Bar Council of India (New Delhi, India).

Mark P. Popiel, Esq. 

MARK P. POPIEL, Esq. is a graduate of Brock University (B.A.) and the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law (Juris Doctor), International Law concentration.

As the Founding/Managing Partner of the Buffalo, New York office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. (mpopiel@malikpopiel.com) Mr. Popiel represents small to multi-million dollar corporations, professionals, as well as health and academic institutions in various permanent and temporary resident matters where he advises his clientele on the proper choice of visas and employment-based immigration categories, governmental procedures, content and format of applications and petitions, as well as a host of other immigrant and nonimmigrant related matters.

Given his specialization, Mr. Popiel has extensive experience in:

  • temporary employment-based cases such as H-1B, L-1, TN, O-1, E-2 and E-3 petitions;

In addition to his practice with Malik & Popiel, P.C., Mr. Popiel currently serves as the Director of the Immigration Law Clinic at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School where he teaches the Immigration Law Clinic to upper level law students. Among others, Mr. Popiel also serves as an Adjunct Faculty with Hilbert College teaching Immigration Law to undergraduate students. 

Mr. Popiel is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in New York, before the U.S. Court of International Trade, and as a Foreign Legal Consultant (practicing U.S. law) in Ontario, Canada.

Ashley J. Schaefer, Esq.

Ms. Schaefer is an Associate Attorney with the Manhattan, New York office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. and concentrates her practice on nonimmigrant matters, including L-1A's (multinational managers/executive), L-1B's (specialized knowledge professionals), H-1B's (for specialized occupation professionals) and Employment-Based permanent residency cases. Ms. Schaefer holds a Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and political science.  While in law school, she served as the Notes & Comments Editor for the Connecticut Law Review, the Outreach Chair of the Public Interest Law Group, and volunteered with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and Domestic Assistance Program at Family Court Services. Her prior work experiences involve major financial institutions and the analysis of financial and business records for legality and statutory application, the structuring and creation of state-based public health regulations, and administrative law adjudication.  Ms. Schaefer is admitted to practice law in the State of New York.

Natalie M. Pellegrino, Esq.

Ms. Pellegrino is an Associate Attorney with the Buffalo, New York office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. and concentrates her practice on nonimmigrant matters, including H-1Bs (for specialized occupation professionals), H-4 Applications for dependents, and the North American Free Trade Agreement TN/TD Petitions.  Ms. Pellegrino also advises and prepares immigrant petitions which include, among others, EB-2 and EB-3 Immigrant Petitions and National Interest Waivers, including Adjustment of Status Applications and related filings.   Ms. Pellegrino is admitted to practice law in New York. Ms. Pellegrino is fluent in Spanish and has a moderate understanding of Italian.  Ms. Pellegrino is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Lawwhere she received her J.D.  She also holds a B.A. in Modern Language (Spanish) and History (Concentration in European History) from St. John Fisher College. During law school, Ms. Pellegrino interned with the Legal Aid Society of Rochester’s Immigration Department; the New York State Defenders Association’s Criminal Defense Immigration Project; and served as a clerk with the Buffalo Immigration Court, as well as the Eighth Judicial District Erie County Court. In addition, Ms. Pellegrino was a member of her law school’s Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition team and a clerk for the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review.  Also, as a Buffalo Public Interest Law Program Fellow, Ms. Pellegrino completed her fellowship with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of New York.

Ryan P. Mooney, Esq.

Mr. Mooney is an Associate Attorney with the Buffalo, New York office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. where he is involved in the preparation of immigrant and nonimmigrant matters which include, among others, H-1B and L-1 petitions, as well as permanent residency through U.S.employer and family sponsorship.  Mr. Mooney has formerly served as an attorney handling Medicaid and Medicare liens, as well as was a Law Clerk with the Erie County Attorney’s office.  Mr. Mooney is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School where he received his Juris Doctor degree.  Mr. Mooney also holds a Bachelor of Science, in Political Science, degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  Mr. Mooney is admitted to practice law in New York.  Mr. Mooney also holds basic/conversational understanding of Japanese.

Lizeth Castillo, Esq.

Lizeth Castillo, Esq. is an Associate Attorney with the New York City office of Malik & Popiel, P.C. and focuses her practice on nonimmigrant matters which include H-1B, H-4, E-3, L-1A/L-1B filings. Ms. Castillo also assists clientele in the preparation of Employment Authorization Document Applications, Advance Parole Applications and related filings connected with immigrant petitions. Ms. Castillo is admitted to practice law in New York State and is a member of the New York Minority Bar Association. Ms. Castillo is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Castillo is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, where she received her J.D., with a certified concentration in International Law lead by Dean Makau Mutua. Ms. Castillo is also a graduate of Occidental College where she received her B.A in English Literature and Comparative Literary Studies. Narendra M. Sharma,  Advocate

Narendra M. Sharma is a graduate of Rajasthan University, India where he obtained a B.SC, LL.B. and LL.M.

Mr. Sharma has been practicing as an Advocate and Advisor in the High Courts and Supreme Court of India, as well as has served as Counsel in Domestic and International Arbitrations and Tribunals for over 20 years.
